Teen Advisory Board
What Is Teen Advisory Board?
Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is the library's teen volunteer group. They help the Youth Librarian with programs, plan events for library patrons, and help promote library services in our community. This last year these are some of the events TAB helped organize:
- Puppet Theater: The Dairy Disaster
- Poolside Pages
- Cookie and Ornament Decorating
- Teen DnD
- Bloomfield Renaissance Faire
- Spooky Storytime
- Minecraft Day
- Corporate Teen Night
- Life-Size Board Games Day
How Do I Join TAB?
TAB is open to students starting the summer after 7th grade and ending the fall after 12th grade. If you are interested in joining TAB contact our Youth Librarian Sarah Clawson at sarah.clawson@cityofbloomfied for a sign up form.
Can I Get Silver Cord Hours By Volunteering In TAB?
Absolutely! Many of our current TAB volunteers track their hours for silver cord. Get your silver cord paperwork from the school district office and get started. You would be surprised how quickly you get your hours once you start tracking.
What Would I Do As A TAB Volunteer?
As an advisory board, TAB has regular meetings and group work times. TAB members do not have to attend all of these, most members just attend when they are available. TAB members can also come in to volunteer as they have free time, during library hours.
TAB Meetings:
TAB generally has 2 meetings a month, on Mondays from 4-5pm. At meetings they discuss events they want to plan, suggestions for improving library programs, and ideas for engaging with the community. Meetings are attended by all available TAB members and the Youth Librarian. The elected TAB President directs the meeting.
TAB Works:
TAB generally has 2 group work times a month, on Wednesdays from 5-7pm, after library hours. During TAB Works any TAB members who are available come in and work on projects or events discussed in TAB Meetings. They may also work on other tasks requested by the Youth Librarian. Here are a few things our volunteers have done during TAB Works recently:
- Create Canva posters a cooking decorating program
- Paint rocks for an outdoor scavenger hunt
- Film content for the TAB social media page
- Outline the plot for a puppet show event
- Assemble some of the library's LEGO sets to figure out what pieces are missing
There are a lot of opportunities for TAB volunteers. If you have a skill or interest, you can probably use it in TAB!
