Notary Public

The Library now has a notary on staff. If you would like to use this service, please call to make sure our notary will be available when you are planning to come in.

What is a notary?

Certain legal, medical, or financial documents may indicate that your signature must be witnessed by a notary. A notary is an individual who has been certified by a specific state to witness signature for documents in their state. The purpose of notarization is to help prevent incidence of identity fraud on these important documents.

Documents that require notarization to be considered valid will always include a line labeled "Notary Signature". Some documents may indicate that they can either be notarized or signed by additional witnesses. If you are unsure whether notarization is necessary, give us a call and we can help you figure it out.

How do notary services work?

The notary verifies the identity of the signer using a photo ID, and witnesses the signature of the signer. After this is done the notary will stamp your document with their state issued seal, officially notarizing it.
